Hillside House Plans

If you are looking for hillside house plans, chances are you have already picked your perfect lot. Otherwise, there would not be much sense in seeking a design that incorporates specific features of your natural building place!

Hillside house plans are appealing for a number of different reasons. One interest aspect is the opportunity to make the home feel like it is truly a part of the surrounding landscape. By insetting a house into the hill, it is possible to create an effect that suggests the home is part of the hill itself. Different landscapes can make this look quite dramatic; in Arizona, for example, some hillside homes give the impression that they are growing directly out of the boulders and living rock. Other hillside homes can develop ivy and other natural growth to take on the leafy green feel of the surrounding hill.

For some, hillside house plans are desirable to give access to a beautiful view. This is the case when the hill slopes away and down behind the house, giving an impression that the house is nestled on a steep precipice. When this is the case, it is common to only see partial view of the house from the street, with the majority only visible from a side view. In these situations it is almost mandatory to put in a deck or large windows on the back of the house that typically looks out over a commanding view of lake, ocean, landscape or city views.
