Modular house plans are becoming more popular with each passing year as home buyers and builders discover the benefits of this unique method
of construction. As modular builders overcome the myths and educate the public as to the benefits of building this way, the trend is likely to
only get stronger.
Modular house plans are interesting because the house is not actually built on site. The design process is similar to that of a normally
built home, but the construction actually occurs offsite in a climate controlled environment. The "modules" are then transported on site, piece
by piece, and assembled into a home, similar to the process of building a home out of lego blocks. Except in this case, the home is considered
equal in every respect to a normally constructed home, meeting the same code, safety and design standards that a typically built home would.
A particular advantage of modular house plans is that the home can be built faster due to assembly in a controlled off site environment.
The company doing the building can centralize its activity in a single location, rather than sending workers to the site initially, and the
construction of the modules is not hampered by weather delays.
Modular house plans generally result in a less expensive building cost overall, partly due to the still new nature of the process, and
modular homes arguably have better heating and cooling efficiency. Thus in many respects, the modular home has multiple advantages over the
traditional building method. As with any new idea, however, it will take time before this new concept is fully accepted.
