Waterfront House Plans

Waterfront house plans are generally popular in areas that require protection against flooding or high water tables. The design of these special houses has specific considerations in mind related to water issues. Within the parameters of those considerations, there are different variations that let the homeowner build a home that suits their taste while functioning well and fitting in well.

If your waterfront house plans are for a house directly on the water, you definitely want to consider how you are going to incorporate a pier into your design. The advantages of direct access will only be more appreciated over time if you are close enough to enjoy this amenity.

Alternatively, if your waterfront house plans are close to the water but not immediately on it, you may want to consider an expansive wooden deck on the waterfront side of the house, if not on all sides. The deck would also function well with an integrated staircase leading to the interior of the house, with the support structure that keeps the house out of flood danger below.

Another question that may depend on your location is whether your waterfront home plans should include large windows. Because vacation homes are usually in places of natural beauty, it's natural to have a preference for as much visibility as possible- and also to let as much sunlight in as possible. However, if your vacation home is on the ocean, you may want to reconsider the danger of large windows in the event of extremely high winds or a tropical storm. At the very least, consider strong reinforcements for your windows if you know you are building in a recognize danger zone as far as off season weather is concerned.
